Arts Council England- Project Monitoring Services

Appleyard & Trew have been undertaking Project Monitoring services on behalf of Arts Council England since we were appointed to ACE’s National Panel of Advisors in 2008.  In that time, we have acted on ACE’s behalf on over twenty completed projects ranging from multi-million pound city centre mixed-use venues to smaller community-led arts based facilities.  Our role is fully encompassing from initial application throughout the entire development process to completion and operation of the facility.

Storyhouse, Chester

Storyhouse is a multi-award winning cultural building designed to maximise the opportunity of multi-function activity.

The original parts of the building were constructed as an art deco Odeon cinema in 1936, and have now been restored, extended and renovated into a library, two state of the art theatres, a cinema, library, restaurant and two bars.

Self Service is a key theme throughout the building which includes theatre and cinema ticketing solutions as well as self-service library terminals.

• Adaptable Auditorium Space providing 800 seat Proscenium Arch or 500 seat Thrust

Works to the Grade II listed building comprised a full refurbishment of all areas, the opening up of the magnificent partially glazed barrel vault roof and the insertion of a new floating mezzanine floor to create a new level named the Secret Gallery.  Internal works were fully refurbished or replaced including new timber floors, doors and fittings. New facilities were incorporated for an art workshop, resource and learning areas and an art store.

Home, manchester

HOME is a centre for international contemporary art, theatre and film in Manchester situated within the First Street development. HOME was formed by the merger of two Manchester-based arts organisations; namely the Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company.

The building consists of a 500-seat theatre and 150-seat flexible studio space, five cinema screens, gallery space to display contemporary art, cafe bar and restaurant.

Everyman Theatre

To overcome a decaying but much-loved theatre that was no longer fit for its intended purpose, the Liverpool Theatres Trust commenced a series of feasibility studies to determine the likelihood of replacing the Everyman Theatre with a new larger and modern facility whilst retaining the charm and character of the original building.

This project would take some 10 years from concept through to completion but has resulted in a modern theatre facility housed within an iconic prize-winning building.
